We welcomed spring alongside families birthing babies in hospitals and in birth centers. We witnessed families welcome their first babies and their second babies. We stepped in last minute to support a Last Minute Doula family, and stepped into birth spaces having spent many months preparing alongside the family.

No matter how the month unfolded, we were reminded once again just how fortunate we are to share this space with you, to have your trust in this journey, and to witness your babies enter the world with love 🌱💛

These posts are well overdue, but I found myself still in the slow down, soaking in the shared energy from our holiday gathering. I didn’t want to rush to social media, and so I didn’t.

A cacao ceremony as a reminder that less can be more, and that it’s ok to slow down, sip mindfully, and reconnect with ourselves and our community. An invitation to co-regulate with our sisters and the changing season. An opportunity to pause, if only for a few moments, amidst the holiday hustle.

When we ask dads and partners if they want to help catch their baby we know where their mind will likely go, and 90% of the time their response looks a little something like this 🏈😂

Lauren is a certified postpartum doula and educator specializing in Ayurvedic and holistic postpartum care. She also happens to be one of our wonderful postpartum doula mentors in our Kindred Mentorship Program.

In her teachings, Lauren brings a compassionate, global approach that honors both the physical and emotional journey. Although Lauren participates in learning sessions for both of our doula programs, a majority of her time is spent within our Postpartum Doula Program ✨

During your time with Lauren, you will explore global postpartum care practices, traditions around the world, day vs nighttime postpartum care, diversification of services, practice models, postpartum mental health, and more.

As a mother of two, Lauren is intimately aware of the joys and challenges that come with the postpartum period. Her own journey inspired her to become a passionate advocate for mothers, providing them with the support and care they truly deserve during this tender time. Her journey into postpartum care has been enriched by the wisdom of ancient traditions, including Ayurvedic practices and other nurturing techniques, and she brings this knowledge into her doula practice as well as into her teachings with the Kindred Mentorship Program.

Doulas, we hold so much—space, hands, hips coffee, and some really heavy stories. Showing up for each other after tough births isn’t just nice—it’s essential. Debriefing together is how we heal, grow, and stay in this work with passion and connection.

Here are three quick tips from your fairy goddoula to help come down from a difficult birth:

💛Debrief with a trusted doula friend.
Don’t carry it all alone. Shared stories lighten the load, and processing with someone who “gets it” can help you move past the difficult parts. This is something we preach AND practice in our mentorship program and advanced doula community.

💛Set emotional boundaries.
This is their birth, not yours. You can care deeply without absorbing everything.

💛Prioritize self-regulation.
Utilize breathwork, movement, meditation, or a grounding practice. Nourishing your body and your spirit during your “off” time can help, too!

Jennifer is an experienced L&D nurse, birth doula, and Evidence Based Birth®️ Instructor. She has supported over 300 births as a doula (and many more as an RN) and taught to over 1000 couples since 2006.

Jen specializes in high-risk pregnancies and is skilled at helping her clients navigate inductions. She teaches an “a la carte” approach to minimizing intervention, and she brings these advanced skills to her love of mentoring doulas here at Kindred. Jen enjoys providing education to doulas about medical interventions and the evidence for their use, broadening their understanding and advocacy skills to help families have informed discussions when medical interventions are recommended.
