The Kindred Doula Certification options includes our comprehensive doula mentorship programs that prepare new and experienced doulas to provide confident, compassionate, and culturally responsive care while also meeting California state requirements for becoming an Medi-cal approved doula.
Become a Kindred Certified Birth Doula (KBD) or Kindred Certified Postpartum Doula (KPD), by meeting the following requirements:

16 hour doula training/workshop (from any organization, and coming soon to Kindred)

3 hour lactation for birth professionals class*

Complete general childbirth education*

Completion of the Kindred Doula Mentorship Program in your chosen pathway (over 30 additional educational hours plus 12 additional, optional office hour sessions and in-person gatherings)

Obtain a CPR certificate

Complete HIPPA compliance training

Attend the Kindred Becoming a Medi-cal Approved Doula workshop.*

Attend at least one consultation, one prenatal visit, and one labor/birth as the primary doula or a shadow.

Our five highly experienced mentors—with over 45 years of combined wisdom across birth and postpartum doula work, labor and delivery nursing, lactation specialization, and trainings and certification in Spinning Babies, Evidence-Based Birth, Body Ready Method, Ayurvedic practices, and holistic care—provide insight and hands-on guidance through an extended 12-week curriculum that's far more immersive than most doula trainings or mentorship opportunities.
Beyond mentorship and certification, we foster lifelong growth with ongoing networking, continued mentorship and shadow opportunities, real-time prenatal and birth support guidance and experience, in-person community events, and a flexible hybrid model that delivers virtual accessibility alongside meaningful, optional in-person meet-ups.

When signing up for the mentorship program, you can add the option to certify with Kindred for just $249. Not sure you're ready to certify- don't worry! You have 1 year after completion of the mentorship program to become a Kindred Certified Doula.
